What other services does MOTRIO offer?

In addition to tyre fitting and wheel alignment, MOTRIO garages cover all the systems that work together with your tyres to keep your car safe on the road:

What is MOTRIO Fairway?

The new MOTRIO Fairway tyres are manufactured in Europe. They allow for safe driving regardless of the weather conditions and are available in three versions: Summer, Winter and All-Season.

Main features:

  • 57 items available

  • Environmentally sustainable: low fuel consumption and low rolling resistance

  • Sizes ranging from 13 to 20 inches

If you would like to know whether the MOTRIO Fairway range covers your car's tyre size, your nearest MOTRIO garage can check the right fitment for you.

What makes your tyres illegal?

The two aspects to monitor regularly are inflation pressure and tread depth. The legal minimum tread depth for tyres in the UK is 1.6 mm, measured across the central three-quarters of the tread and around the entire circumference of the tyre. Below that, the tyre is illegal and is an automatic MOT failure.

If you use your vehicle frequently, particularly in urban areas where the tread is likely to wear more quickly, visit one of our MOTRIO workshops. Our technicians will carry out a visual inspection of your tyres and check the tread depth. Replace tyres every 25,000 miles or every 5 years to ensure continued reliability.

Driving on illegal tyres can cost you up to £2,500 per tyre and 3 penalty points on your licence, per tyre. With four illegal tyres on the car, that is £10,000 and 12 points, which is enough for a driving ban.

How do I know if my tyres are still in good condition?

Regularly check the depth of the grooves using the tread wear indicators (small raised bars built into the tread itself; when the tread is level with the bar, the tyre is at the legal limit and needs replacing). A check every 6,000 miles is advised.

Other things to look out for:

  • Uneven wear across the width of the tread: more wear on one side usually means the wheel alignment is out.

  • Cupped or scalloped wear: often a sign of worn shock absorbers or unbalanced wheels.

  • Bulges or blisters in the sidewall: internal damage from a kerb or pothole hit. The tyre is unsafe and must be replaced.

  • Cracks in the rubber: signs that the tyre is ageing, even if the tread looks fine. After about 5 years, rubber starts to harden and lose grip.

  • Vibration through the steering wheel: usually a balancing or alignment issue.

Should I change tyres according to the season?

Yes, we recommend you use summer and winter tyres to guarantee optimal performance based on weather conditions and temperature. MOTRIO all-season tyres provide a versatile alternative, particularly suited to temperate climates.

In the UK climate, the choice usually comes down to two practical options:

  • Two sets, summer and winter, swapped twice a year: the safest option for drivers who do high mileage, live in colder parts of the country, or drive on country roads with frost and snow in winter. Below about 7°C, winter tyres have noticeably better grip than summer tyres.

  • One set of all-season tyres, kept on the car all year round: the most practical option for urban drivers and milder regions, where temperatures rarely drop near freezing for long periods.

If you are not sure which option is right for you, your nearest MOTRIO garage can recommend the best fit based on your car, your usual routes and your mileage.

How do I know if my wheels need aligning?

Wheel alignment (sometimes called tracking) refers to how the wheels are angled relative to each other and to the road. When it is out of spec, the car wears tyres unevenly and feels less stable to drive.

Signs that your wheel alignment needs adjusting:

  • The car pulls to one side on a flat, straight road when you let go of the steering wheel for a moment.

  • The steering wheel is not centred when you are driving straight.

  • Uneven tyre wear, particularly on the inner or outer edges only.

  • Squealing tyres in low-speed corners.

The most common causes are hitting a pothole or a kerb, fitting new tyres or new suspension components, or simply the natural settling of the suspension over time. A 4 wheel alignment at a MOTRIO garage adjusts the geometry back to manufacturer specifications and gets you back to predictable steering and even tyre wear.
