This depends on the vehicle and your driving style, but on average a top-up is required every 3,000 to 9,000 miles. A warning will appear on the dashboard when the level is low — typically a yellow icon, followed by an amber and then a red warning as the level drops. This must not be ignored: if the tank is empty, the engine may fail to restart, and you'll need a tow to a garage to get going again.
